A SERVICE of thanksgiving has been held for a well-known horticulturist who also used to run what is now the Worcester Garden Centre, of Droitwich Road.
Diana Palmer, of Hunts Green, near Ombersley, was also part of the pioneering television gardening show Gardeners' World.
She supplied plants and shrubs for the programme, which became a regular series on BBC 2 in 1969.
Miss Palmer was 76 when she died on Saturday, August 27 at Worcestershire Royal Hospital from respiratory problems. The thanksgiving service was held on Monday at St Andrew's Church, in Ombersley.
She came from a long line of horticulturists. Her grandfather, Thomas Palmer bought the St John's firm Richard Smith and Company in 1910, which at the time was the largest commercial nursery in the world.
Her father William Palmer founded Palmers Nurseries in Droitwich Road, which Diana eventually took over.
The business became Worcester Garden Centre when she retired in 1993.
Her cousin David Palmer, aged 71 from Northwick Road, said: "The thanksgiving service was well attended. She had a lot of friends.
"Her passing is a sad loss. She was a person well loved by all who knew her, particularly by the staff and clients at the nursery."
