TEN-man Evesham United crashed out of the FA Cup at Common Road last night as Tiverton Town ran out 1-0 winners.

Chris Bale bagged the only goal of the first qualifying round replay tie with a sumptuous chip on 16 minutes.

In the game's first threatening move, a high ball fell to Bale on the edge of the Evesham penalty box and the midfielder kept his cool with a deft shot over the defence.

Robins' goalkeeper Dave Adey got a leaping fist to Bale's effort, but the ball was ruled to have crossed the line.

The home side were dealt more woe five minutes later when full-back Neil O'Sullivan was sent off for stamping on striker Chris Yetton.

It was the second consecutive time United lost a man in the tie, following Steve Duncan's dismissal in Devon on Saturday.

But rather than damage their chances, Evesham were galvanised after the red card, forcing eight first-half corners and several chances. Richard Ball's on-target header required a fine stop from Town 'keeper Mark Ovendale and Duncan lashed a 20-yarder just over the bar.

In the second-half, Jermaine Clarke's stunning left-foot drive required more athleticism from Ovendale, while Adey beat away Steve Daly's thunderous near-post shot.

Both sides missed gilt-edged opportunities in a frenetic eight minutes of stoppage time.

From a right-wing cross, Ball mishit a left-foot shot into the path of Clarke who rashly fired over from 15 yards. At the other end, Adey pulled off a remarkable point-blank stop from Tiverton sub Shaun Goff.

Extra-time looked a certainty as Clarke put Ball clear inside the box with seconds left on the clock. But the prolific striker screwed his right-foot shot agonisingly wide of the far post.
