TONY Bennett lectures me on how Britain's economy will fair outside the EU. He cites Norway, Switzerland and Iceland by way of an example.

I think Philip Bushill-Matthew's subsequent letter exposed Mr Bennett's ill-conceived argument about Norway, far better than I could have done myself.

Be that as it may, I did not find Mr Bennett's comparisons relevant, because unlike Britain, Norway, Switzerland and Iceland do not have to protect the fourth largest economy.

I also do not pretend to understand the significance of Norway's population at four million to Britain's seventy million.

As for the Oslo Accords, unfortunately Israel has been punching holes through it ever since the accords have been drawn up and signed.

The one thing I know Britain has in common with Norway is getting nil point at the Eurovision song contest.
