A FIELD of 76 riders contested Evesham Wheelers' annual veteran's road race.
Two races were staged over three laps of the Inkberrow, Flyford Flavell, Radford, Gooms Hill and Weethly Bank 43-mile circuit.
Some top names from the past were in action including former professional and current British Veterans champion Ian Fagan from Wor- cester.
Other prominent riders included Steve Jones, Roger Iddles, Lance Ravenhill, John Patston and Mick Ives who. at the age of 65, completed the entire route of this year's Tour De France.
The first race saw the A, B, C categories (40-54) average almost 24mph that led to a dead-heat between Fagan and Charles Zanettacci.
Martyn Cole and Steve McGrath represented the Wheelers with the former involved in an early break that helped him take 11th place on the uphill finish.
McGrath, meanwhile, stayed in the bunch but suffered from cramp in the later stages.
The second race saw the 55 and over riders complete the distance a few minutes slower with local time trial star Iddles putting those skills to good use as he finished four minutes clear of the chasing pack.
This year's event was sponsored by Vale Cycles of Port Street, Evesham.
Last Sunday, Arja Scars-brook and Adrian Main were in action in the South Wales VTTA 25-mile Time Trial.
On a cool but pleasant morning, Scarsbrook recorded a time of one hour four minutes and two seconds closely followed by Main (1.04.49) to gain veteran standards of +15.28 and +2.11 respectively.
This Sunday's club run is to Northleach, meeting in the High Street at 8.45am. New members welcome.
