BUSINESSES in and around Tenbury Wells are being urged to become a core part of the town's upcoming Applefest celebration.
In conjunction with the Tenbury Area Partnership, Malvern Hills District Council is calling on the area's orchard owners and businesses to get in to the spirit and join in selling apples, or apple products during the festival.
The Applefest runs from Saturday, October 22, to Friday, October 28, and is seeking to turn Queen Victoria's famous quote about Tenbury Wells on its head.
She famously described Tenbury Wells as "her little town in the orchard" - and now the Applefest is looking to bring the orchard in to the town.
Applefest is set to be a week of activities to promote the apple as more than just food and drink - but as part of Tenbury's heritage.
Plans include an apple art exhibition, a panel of 'apple doctors' to diagnose any problems, apple cultivation and grafting workshops.
There will also be lots of fun and games including the longest peel contest.
Anthony Collis, the district council's town centre co-ordinator, said: "We really want to get all local businesses somehow involved in the Applefest, whether they're apple growers or shop owners who'd like to have an apple-related theme for the week.
"We urge local businesses to introduce apple-related products, recipes and displays. It will all help to add excitement and flavour."
"We really want the Applefest to grow into a great celebration for Tenbury, and it's sure to bring plenty of visitors to this event.
