I READ in Dave Bradley's column that he has developed the technique of becoming invisible when riding a bicycle.

Despite wearing highly visible clothing and in bright sunlight, I have cycled invisibly on at least three occasions. I was knocked off by motorists from side, rear and head-on - the latter when the driver stopped at a halt sign then drove into me on the wrong side of the road. Motorists seem to come at me from all angles.

I wonder how often I am invisible when missed by a whisker. A solution to remain visible is to ride two metres from the verge. However, this does create problems. It will arouse the anger of those wishing to speed past. More seriously, if the cyclist has suddenly acquired the invisible mode, he is literally a sitting target.

A further solution is for all road-users to practise greater concentration, consideration and courtesy - mere dreams as we face the nightmare of ever-increasing crowding on chaotic roads.
