REDDITCH residents will be able to experience life inside the cells when the town's police station throws open its doors to the public.

Visitors to the Grove Street open day this Sunday (July 24) will also be able to have their fingerprints and photographs taken.

A mobile CCTV van will be on display with a number of other police vehicles and officers will demonstrate the workings of the automatic number plate recognition equipment.

There will also be a number of stands offering information on different aspects of the police force.

Station acting chief superintendent Steve Cullen said the event would enable the police to offer reassurance to Redditch people.

"Not only will visitors gain a real insight into what the police do but it will also give police an opportunity to engage with the community we serve," he said.

The open day will run from 11am-3pm.
