WORCESTERSHIRE are today reflecting on the plus points which emerged from their drawn game against the West Indies at New Road.
A number of County players impressed during the three days, but it was the tourists who produced the man-of-the match in Shivnarine Chanderpaul who scored an unbeaten 161.
His ton-up exploits enabled the grateful Windies, who trailed on 68 runs on first innings, to end their second knock on 301-9 declared.
He spent nearly six hours at the crease hitting 24 fours off 310 balls.
It was a valuable innings for the tourists whose record-breaking batsman Brian Lara had a poor start to his country's tour.
He scored just a single in each of his innings and faced a total of only six balls.
His dismissal in both cases was similar being caught leg side by wicketkeeper Steve Rhodes, firstly off young Kabir Ali and then Stuart Lampitt.
It was a performance, however, which did not unduly worry the tourists coach Roger Harper.
He said: "We haven't had chance to assess his form, but Brian is a top class player and we know that as the tour progresses he will come into his own. Brian is very confident within himself and he's in reasonable shape in the nets."
Worcestershire began the match by dismissing the West Indies for a modest 164 with up-and-coming paceman Duncan Catterall claiming a career-best 4-50.
In reply the County were removed for a creditable 232 with Vikram Solanki top scoring with 51 which included eight fours off 72 balls.
It was an innings which sparked Rhodes, captaining Worcestershire in place of England's Graeme Hick, into saying: "He's definitely a Test player for the future."
He added: "He's in good form. If you look at the way the central contracts have gone they are going to look to play those guys first, so he's got to keep getting his head down and getting runs.
"He's played well against the West Indies on an awkward wicket and against good bowling. That will give him a lot of confidence. He's just got to keep doing the right things and get on a tour again if he's not selected this year.
"He's got lots of ability and talent and shows maturity. He still gets frustrated at times, but he's really making the grade at the moment. He's got to carry on doing that. Performances are what push you in and not anybody else talking about it. It's actual weight of runs and at the moment he's starting to do that."
Solanki's half ton took his aggregate of runs in his last four first-class innings to 343.
The County were also boosted by Ryan Driver's career-best 47 which contained two sixes and two fours off 79 deliveries.
Yesterday, however, Worcestershire's first innings advantage counted for nothing once Chanderpaul got his eye in after the tourists had slipped to 93-4.
