Golden Chimes was beaten over a marathon trip at Pontefract on Sunday but can bounce back over a more suitable distance in the UCB Films Cumberland Plate at Carlisle tomorrow.
The David Nicholls-trained gelding was six and a half lengths behind the winner Bustling Rio in the Tote Pontefract Cup over two and a quarter miles.
He is better judged on his only other run this season seven days previously, at Carlisle where he led more than two furlongs out to trounce Totem Dancer by five lengths over a mile and three-quarters.
Tomorrow's Showcase Handicap is over a mile and a half, a distance that should be ideal for the son of Woodman.
He joined Nicholls' team at Thirsk after being sold out of David Chappell's Fordingbridge stable for 18,000 guineas.
He had been trained by Charles O'Brien in Ireland as a two and three-year-old and was certainly bred to be a winner, being a half-brother to 1997 Irish Derby runner-up Dr Johnson.
Having found his level, the five-year-old can lift this £20,000-added prize.
Cupids Charm can also recoup losses in the Clayton Arms, Adlington Handicap, after failing to follow up a promising victory.
The Rae Guest-trained three-year-old filly, was only seventh of 17 to Perle de Sagesse when joint-favourite for a six-furlong handicap at Windsor two weeks ago.
But she was badly drawn that day and jockey David Harrison was not hard on her once it was obvious she had no chance of success.
Having previously opened her account by three-quarters of a length from Pacific Place at Brighton on only her fourth start, the daughter of Cadeaux Genereux should have improvement in her.
