STUDLEY Cricket Club's hopes of causing a shock in the Birmingham Challenge Cup were dashed last Wednesday by Coventry and North Warwickshire.
The Birmingham League premier division side, led by former Coventry City goalkeeper Steve Ogrizovic, proved too strong for their second division opponents as they won by seven wickets.
Studley were always up against it after posting a moderate score of 82 for eight, with Richard Hall, Mark Lewis and Adey Hunt the only batsmen to get among the runs.
Coventry and NW, who showed respect to a high-flying Studley side by fielding eight first teamers, reached the require rate for the loss of only three wickets.
But Studley skipper Stuart Harris was not too dishearten by the result, which ended the club's first year in the cup.
He said: "They just showed a little bit too much for us with strong batting and tight bowling. If we had managed to beat them I would've been very chuffed.
"But we managed to reach the quarter-finals at our first attempt, beating two sides from our division, which will give us plenty of confidence when we come to play them next time."
