A DROITWICH man celebrating Father's Day ended up getting drunk and insulting a police officer.
Worcester magistrates heard how Martin Deeming, aged 20, was making threatening gestures to the officer who was called to a disturbance on the town's Westlands Estate.
Kiernan Cunningham, prosecuting, said officers arrived on the estate on Sunday evening, June 18.
"They were called to see a group of people about a disturbance," he said.
"He (Deeming) was lying apparently unconscious in the kitchen."
He said when the officer left the house Deeming followed him and made gestures towards him.
"The officer formed the opinion he was drunk," said Mr Cunningham.
"He then swore at him and pointed at him."
Deeming was arrested for being drunk and disorderly, an offence he admitted to magistrates.
Dale Sheehan, defending, said Deeming, who lived at Farmer's Piece, Droitwich Spa, until this week, but is now in Cheltenham, had not been a perpetrator of the trouble that had caused the police to be called.
"In no way does he contradict the police officer's evidence," he said.
"He admits he consumed too much alcohol. He had been celebrating Father's Day and drank too much."
Mr Sheehan said Deeming had been caught up in the atmosphere surrounding the disturbance and that was the reason for his behaviour.
Magistrates yesterday fined Deeming £80 and ordered him to pay £55 costs.
