PROMISING young batsman Kadeer Ali has been called up by Worcestershire for their one-day tour match against New Zealand 'A' at New Road on Monday.
The 17-year-old will get his chance after scoring centuries in the last two matches for the Second XI.
County coach Bill Athey said: "He is coming along very well like most of our youngsters, although there is an awful lot of hard work between having a bit of potential and delivering the goods."
The rest of the squad is likely to be finalised after today's National League clash with Somerset, although paceman Alamgir Sheriyar and all-rounder Gavin Haynes are likely to get recalls. Steve Rhodes will lead the side.
The 50-over match will begin at 11am.
Worcestershire went down by four wickets to Leicestershire in their Second XI Championship clash at Hinckley.
Set a target of 281 in 71 overs, the home side did it with five balls to spare thanks mainly to Iain Sutcliffe (81) and Steve Adshead (63). Chris Liptrot was the most successful bowler with 3-74.
Leicestershire declared their first innings overnight on 220-6 and then Worcestershire rattled up 192-4 in 26.3 overs in their second innings, Nick Boulton making an unbeaten 93 and debutant David Paynter -- great-grandson of former Lancashire and England great Eddie Paynter -- hitting 40.
