CHARLIE Combes' 51 was not enough for Bewdley Cricket Club as they went down to a seven-wicket defeat at Lye on Saturday.

Batting first, the visitors failed to spark and finished on 154-8 despite Combes' efforts.

Mark Bennett's 33 was the only other highlight for Bewdley.

In reply, the home side rarely looked in trouble despite Bewdley taking an early wicket.

However, they could not prevent Lye cruising to a comfortable win.

Bewdley 154-8 (3 points) (Charlie Combes 51, Mark Bennett 33); Lye 155-3 (20).

Bewdley 2nd v Lye - winning draw for Lye

Lye lost two early wickets but Sidaway survived several chances to reach his century.

He shared in partnerships of 73 with Barber, 59 with Nusrat and 60 with Gulbar.

Bewdley's fielding was not helped by injuries to two players.

In reply Bewdley also lost an early wicket, but skipper David Jones dominated partnerships of 61 with Derek Moses and 59 with David Meek.

Runs came slowly and Bewdley needed to score at eight an over off the last 11 overs.

Andy Robinson carried on when Jones was caught on the boundary, but in the last over he was deprived of the six which was then the difference between the scores, by a fine boundary catch.

Lye 209-5 (Sidaway 109no, Barber 27, Gulbar 23, Nusrat 23), Bewdley 203-6 (David Jones 96, Andy Robinson 40, David Meek 29, Nusrat 5-75).
