TWENTY teams of four golfers consisting of one Senior gentleman, one Senior lady, one Club gentleman and one Club lady each competed in the inaugural Millennium Team Championship at the Worcestershire Golf Club playing in a Stableford Competition off three quarters of handicap.

At each hole one gentleman's score and one lady's score was to count. Played in ideal golfing weather and with the course in excellent condition competition was intense.

In third place winning six golf balls each were the team of Brian & Pat Longley partnered by Mark Read and new lady member Helen Thomas. In second place were the team of David & Sally Agnew and Graham & Evelyn Hill.

The gentlemen in second place won a crystal glass tankard and the ladies a glass vase. The winners of the competition with the excellent score of 81 points were John & Margaret Duncan partnered by Simon & Joss Douglas Pennant.

The men received a pair of crystal brand glasses and the ladies crystal glass clocks as reward for their efforts in the winning team. The competitors sat down to an excellent buffet meal at the completion of their round.

Competition in the Mid-Week Medal was keen amongst the Club golfers. Senior golfer Ken Willett playing off a handicap of 14 won Division A returning a net 71 to win from Course Manager Graham Wallace who returned a net 72 playing off a handicap of three with Brian Brassington third. In Division B Paul Butler came third with a net score of 73 and veteran golfer Sam Meredith returned a net score of 71 off a handicap of 18 to achieve second place. The winner was Kevin Field returning the best net score of the day of 70 playing off a handicap of 18.

The Ladies are presently in great form and some excellent scores have been returned in their competitions. In the June Extra Medal Liz Lewis ran out the winner in Division One with the excellent score of 66 and in second place was Joss Douglas Pennant who returned a net 69. Jill Mico won Division Two with the amazing net score of 63 with Helen Landau runner up with a net score of 68. Helen also won the Grannies Cup played on the same day.

Many ladies returned excellent scores in the Peg Evans Centenary Stableford Cup but none could better Barbara Wilkinson who returned with 42 points, six points above par for the course.

Joyce Hebbes also returned a score of 42 points but lost to Barbara having a worse back nine holes.

Other good scores of the day were Jane Tromans 41 points and Kate Foster, Diana Black and Janet Clowrey who all returned 40 points.

These ladies are just watching their handicaps falling.
