KIDDERMINSTER Harriers boss Jan Molby is stepping up his bid to sign his two loan players on a permanent basis.

Molby, who takes his Harriers side to lowly Hayes in the Nationwide Conference tomorrow (3.00), has been impressed by the displays of goalkeeper Tim Clarke and left-back Scott Stamps.

Clarke's one-month loan from Scunthorpe expires after tomorrow's game, and Molby wants to sign him on a two-year deal.

He said: "I think he has done well. Stuart Brock is also a very good keeper but at this moment in time I would give Tim the nod ahead of Stuart."

Former Colchester and Torquay defender Stamps has two more games after tomorrow before completing his month's trial.

Molby added: "He has also impressed me and with each game, he is getting better."

But Molby has put on hold plans to sign former Wimbledon and Coventry defender Andy Pearce, although he is still interested in the player.

Pearce, who is also being targeted by Aldershot Town, was due to play a reserve game this week but dropped out at the last minute.

Molby added: "I am not going to sign anyone without seeing them play."

Former Aston Villa defender Phil King should return to the squad after shaking off a calf injury in place of Worcester City-bound Martin Weir.

Rene Petersen is set to replace his fellow Dane Thomas Skovbjerg, who strained a hamstring against Doncaster last week, in midfield.

Molby believes Harriers are now finding their feet after a fine run of four wins in five games.

"Even when we were losing, the lads still kept believing in what we are trying to do. Confidence has been pretty good right the way through the season.

"After five games we were 15 points behind the leaders and now we are eight points behind, so we have halved that in five matches. If we do put a bit of a run together there is every chance we are going to improve our league position."

But he expects a tricky test against Hayes, saying: "They are a better team than what the table suggests."
