KIDDERMINSTER Harriers today confirmed the appointment of Gary Barnett as assistant to new manager Jan Molby.

The 36-year-old has arrived at Aggborough after a successful three-year spell in charge at Barry Town.

Molby said: "I first met Gary when I was down in South Wales with Swansea and Gary was up the road with Barry.

"I have been impressed with his work. He is a very good coach and a patient coach. Obviously, we are not going to see the improvement in the next two weeks, but hopefully in the long term he will be a super signing for us."

Barnett is to sign a two-year contract as player and assistant to Molby. He was formerly with Orient, Huddersfield, Fulham, Oxford and Wimbledon and at one time was a trainee at Coventry City.

Four seasons ago he appeared in one match for Worcester City.

Barnett watched Kidderminster struggle to a 3-0 victory over Halesowen Harriers last night -- a side three divisions below them in the non-league pyramid.

And he soon had an idea of the task ahead as the Interlink Express Midland Football Alliance side looked intent on spoiling his welcoming party.

Molby said: "I wasn't particularly impressed and I thought our passing was sloppy especially against such opposition.

"All aspects of our game were disappointing.

"The only positive thing to come out of the game is that we have not picked up any injuries."

Kidderminster started much the better side but squandered too many chances.

The breakthrough came six minutes from half-time, the impressive Les Hines whipping over a cross which Hadley stooped to head just inside the post.

But rather than building on their advantage, Kidderminster's game fell apart and Halesowen missed a golden chance to level when skipper Giles Parry headed the ball down to Chris Busby only for the young striker to stumble over the ball.

Halesowen continued to have the upper hand until Molby replaced strikers Hadley and Taylor with Dean Bennett and former Halesowen favourite Stuart Payne mid-way through the half.

Payne's eagerness to impress against his former team-mates seemed to do the trick as he made it 2-0 on 72 minutes, turning home a cross from Danish trialist Thomas Shovbjerg.

Another Payne break two minutes later forced a good save from keeper Nathan Harrison but Rene Petersen was on hand to blast home the rebound.

In addition to Dane Shovbjerg, Harriers also gave run-outs to trialist goalkeepers Malcolm Rigby, released by Yeovil, and Justin Bray.
