CANOE POLO: Blakedown finished fifth out of 14 national teams in the Merseyside International Canoe Polo Tournament, following their recent success at the South West championships.
After two wins and a draw, against teams from Bedford, Newcastle and York, Blakedown were two points behind league leaders Manchester.
However, on the second day of the championships Blakedown had a bad start, going down to a solitary strike by Ross.
This meant a play-off game with Bridgend, which Blakedown won 1-0 after skipper Dan Adams broke away and allowed Rob Myers to score the goal of the tournament.
The final match was against the host club, Liverpool.
After full-time and extra-time the score remained 0-0, so the match was decided on a penalty shoot-out.
Blakedown went 3-1 up, but missed the next two penalties while Liverpool scored once.
Liverpool then missed their final penalty to gift victory to Blakedown.
The youth B team also did well, finishing 13th in the mixed section.
