ROWING: Stourport Boat Club enjoyed yet another successful regatta when they bagged nine titles at Ironbridge over the weekend.
On Saturday, over the 1000-metre course, Stourport's senior eight won the day's premier event.
The crew - Mark Betson, Simon Rush, Chris Morson, Ian Hough, Steve Fuller, Darren Felton and Stuart Winter coxed by Carol Hough - had little trouble in seeing off the challenges of Bewdley in the semi-final and the City of Oxford in the final.
However, it was not such an easy ride for the club's stars of the future in the senior coxed fours.
Teenagers Kevin Stack, Andy Lowe, Tristan Nesbitt and Simon Brown, coxed by Siobhan Adams, were competing against mostly adult crews in this event.
Their first round saw them row against City of Bristol and despite falling behind they caught up just before the line to win by six feet.
The 16-year-olds then raced Gloucester and again fell behind but managed to claw their way back to gain a dead-heat and a re-row.
In this, coming from a length down at half way, they surged past Gloucester for another six-foot verdict.
After a tough semi-final win over Avon County, they went on to overcome Kings School Chester in a dramatic final.
Stourport, once again, found themselves behind with 50 metres to go but managed to catch the Kings before the line.
Sarah Hough, in the girl's under-15 single sculls, proved too fast for her Queens Park High School opponent and brought home Stourport's third win of the day.
Hough followed this in similar style over the 500 metre Sunday course, this time Hereford providing the opposition.
Her win set the pattern of the day with a host of single titles coming Stourport's way.
Kate Oliver, who had sculled well to no avail on the previous day, clinched the novice title after winning through three rounds before beating City of Sheffield in the final.
Jacqui Whorton, having lost her final on Saturday, then put in another fine performance to beat Huntingdon in the final of women's senior three sculls.
Stewart Barnett completed an impressive comeback in the senior two sculls by beating opponents from from Peterborough, Bridgnorth and Berwick to win the event.
Finally, the last two wins came to the evergreen Don Taylor who easily beat Grosvenor to take the veteran sculls trophy and then defeated Royal Chester in elite sculls.
