LAST week Studley U16s played two East Worcestershire league games and were defeated on both occasions.

The first match was away to Astwood Bank where Studley batted first on a difficult wicket.

Opener Gary Roberts was first out, bowled for 6, when the score was 16. Andrew Tonks then joined Michael Elton and they batted sensibly, taking the score to 49 before Michael was run out for 21 trying to push the score along.

Studley eventually reached a respectable 86 for 4 wickets in their 20 overs with Andrew Tonks scoring 21 and Daniel Prosser 15no.

Astwood Bank began their reply and found runs hard to get against some tight bowling.

But they remained calm, batted sensibly and with their captain A Williams playing a brilliant innings of 56no, eventually passed the Studley total for the loss of two wickets in the 19th over.

Pick of the Studley bowlers were Daniel Prosser who took 1-12 in 3 overs and Michael Elton who conceded only seven runs in his 4 overs.

Later in the week Studley visited Earlswood where Earlswood batted first and amassed a total of 118-6 in their 20 overs.

Their first wicket partnership put on 52 and although wickets then fell regularly, Earlswood were helped by some inaccurate bowling from Studley with 'extras' being the second highest score. Of the bowlers, only Daniel Prosser came away from the game with any credit taking 3 -12 in 4 overs.

The Studley batsmen fared no better than the bowlers and from the start wickets fell regularly, only Sean Weller with 21 managing to reach double figures and Studley were all out for 65 with the last ball of the 20th over.

Earlswood thoroughly deserved their victory with opener Smith top scorer with 33.
