THE 55th anniversary of VJ Day was marked by members of the Burma Star Association in Evesham on Tuesday.
With branch standard bearer Ron Walker, men and women from the 1941-1945 campaign in the Far East remembered comrades who either died on the battlefields or since at the Burma Campaign.
Th simple service was led by John Turner, reader for the parish, who said VJ Day marked the final day of the Second World War.
"It was a conflict of particular ferocity and took a heavy toll of lives," he said. "It was an arena of the war not always recognised as it should be, but we are here to remember all those who took part."
He added: "We give thanks for their bravery and courage, particularly those who paid the supreme sacrifice and those who were tortured in prisoner of war camps."
Mr Walker recited the poignant words from the Far East memorial:
"When you go home tell them of us and say
For your tomorrow we gave our today."
Clive Wells was the bugler.
