BROADWAY GARDEN CLUB: The meeting for July commenced with the results of the garden competition, which were as follows: Large Garden with Help: Mr Red and Mrs Kay Haslam. Bucket Container: Mr R. Folks. Patio: Mr Harris. Small Garden: Mr Enstone. Large Garden without Help: Mr H. Khun. Business Premises: Mr David Robinson. Most Points: Mr Red and Mrs Kay Haslam.
The speaker for the evening was Mr Allen on the subject of Auriculars. These flowers were introduced into England in 1580. They are regarded as "Florists Flowers". They are "Exhibitors Flowers" in Dahlia Exhibitions but they have no commercial value. The flowers are very hardy and enjoy good drainage. The talk was illustrated with many old prints including Lord Willoughby's auricula of 1580. The competition "A Specimen Rose" was won by Cllr Tricia Birchley, Henry Khun was second whilst Shirley Goburn was placed third. The next meeting will take place next Monday at the usual time and venue. The speaker will be Reg Moule, the well known broadcaster, whose subject will be "Making the most of Autumn Blubs". Competition "Flowering Pot Plant (Max Pot Plant 6").
