RUMMAGE SALE FOR INFANT CLINIC: To raise funds for The Eckington Infant Welfare Centre a jumble sale was organised by members of the Infant Clinic Committee, at the village hall on August 5. Supervised by the clinic chairman, Mrs C Norton, committee members and helpers manned the wide variety of stalls. Afternoon teas were organised by Mrs K Clark and helpers. Raffles were held and won by Mesdames P Beadle, M Hussell, E Jones, D Hickmott, M Perkins, D Ludlow, C Andrews, C Norton, D Singleton, J Crowley, G Allen, K Ricketts, K Clark, C Tidmarsh, W Dufty, A Jones and Mr H Checketts, Mr D Stephens and Mr J Blackett. The sale raised a profit of £239.38. Funds are needed for the clinic, because this project is self funded. The infant clinic was started in 1952 and is now 48 years old. Appreciation was expressed to all helpers, donors and patrons.

WHIST DRIVE: The whist drive, held at the village hall on August 10, was organised by Miss F Ricketts and Mrs B Hodges to raise funds for the County Air Ambulance Service. Mr J Chester was MC. 14 tables were in play. Mr C Bromfield, Drawmaster. Whist, raffles and mystery prizes were won by: Mrs A Pullin, Mrs M Gill, Mr D Bunn, Mrs B Errington, Mr L Gunter, Mrs C Evans, Mr G Errington, Mrs O Taylor, Mr T Grinnell, Mrs E Warner, Mr F Jeffreys, Mrs B Bulmer, Mrs P Jeynes, Mr D Bartlett, Mrs M Greaves, Mr J Chapman, Mrs M Jones, Mr L Quiney, Mrs J Bunn, Mrs J Jackson, Mr T Jeynes, Mrs E Haynes, Mrs B Bromfield, Mrs P Griffin, Mrs J Palmer, Mrs B Hodges, Mrs G Crook, Mrs D Hickmott, Mr E Willis, Mrs F Williams and Mr D Crook. Mr J Chester announced oncoming dates of local drives and refreshments were organised during the evening's play.

THURSDAY CLUB OUTING: A full coach of members, visitors and children set off on August 3, for the annual visit to Weston-Super-Mare. After a showery start the weather was pleasant and everyone enjoyed the various attractions of the seaside town, and it was pleasant to "catch the tide" on arrival, which made a real seaside trip. Lunch and afternoon tea was obtained before the homeward bound journey. Club raffles were held, as an added interest, and won by Mr K Evans, Mrs A Mole, Mrs J Vaughan, Miss J Andrews, Mrs J Graves, Mrs J Bond, Mrs R Andrews and Mrs M Perkins. Appreciation was accorded to Mrs A Mole, the club's organising secretary, and to the caring coach driver.
