STOKE Prior's bowlers have been bang in form in recent matches.

In the Yardley Wood and District League Division Two, they went top of the table with a slender one-shot victory away to Northfield Park at the Lickeys.

Milkman Colin Jenkins was the cream of the crop while the return of Dave 'Dixie' Dean helped the cause.

Stoke's last two games are against second placed Yardley Wood Social Club.

The village side have already won the Big Crown Bowling League Division Four.

They travelled to Grasshoppers C in their latest Thursday match and recorded a massive 79-shot victory. The away side set the pace throughout with wins for Colin Mortiboys 21-5, Colin Woolvin 21-7, Colin Jenkins 21-6 and Derek Burton 21-4.

Stoke travel to second placed Selly Park for tomorrow's penultimate league game.

In the Warwick and Worcester League Division Seven, the Stoke Prior senior side travelled to the Greet last Saturday and produced their best away performance of the season.

Mortiboys and Woolvin were in devastating form to record 21-5 wins apiece.

With an excellent display from the rest of the team, the match was decided when Dave Buttery and Jenkins gained the shots needed to give Stoke Prior the victory by just three shots.

The village club will host the Big Crown Bowling League Doubles Merit finals on Sunday August 27.

Spectators should head for the Stoke Prior Sports and Country Club, Westonhall Road, from 2pm.
