YOUR articles concerning a Market Street link road (Ledbury Reporter July 28 and August 4) reminded me of a battle for the link in 1983, when an open meeting was called by the By-pass Action Committee to discuss plans for a link road from Bye Street to New Street, over land owned by the County Council - now Harling Court.
Sadley, for various reasons, the proposed plans were rejected by the Town Council, the District Society, LADS and some property owners.
I have in my possession numerous 1983 newspaper cuttings from your journal, faithfully reporting the proceedings of several meetings, and can find no evidence whatsoever of former town councillor Ken Davies's alleged interest in the link road through Market Street.
Now that Mr Davies's campaign against the new Market Street hospital has failed, perhaps he should use his best efforts to obtain EC funding to strengthen the weak bridge in Woodleigh Road in order to ease the traffic in Rye Street.
Mrs M E McBride, Elmsdale Road, Ledbury.
