EVERYONE involved in brightening their neck of the woods with their own "....in bloom" contributions can give themselves a big pat on the back.

Malvern this week announces its winner and Ledbury is still holding its breath hoping to have clinched first place in a regional version.

But these things don't just appear out of thin air. The people involved in tending gardens, hanging baskets and the like, spend hours and hours preparing and maintaining their plants for the benefit of everyone.

It shows real community spirit and commitment and on that strength alone Ledbury is a winner.

Many may take these kinds of events for granted. Yet you only have to look around you to see the benefit of hard labour by those numerous greenfingers to appreciate the thinking behind the "...in bloom" concept.

The Malvern version is taking off and it's good to see that the town's Unicorn pub has scooped first prize this year. We're all delighted at the impressive sight as you approach from Worcester.

So to all you unsung heroes and heroines, well done for all those hours of nurturing and watering.

And for all those who take time out to brighten-up our lives - blooming well done!
