AN impressive batting and bowling performance saw Colwall collect a six wicket win on Saturday over second-placed Frocester at Stowe Lane.
COLWALL v FROCESTER
Put into the field by Frocester, Colwall took little time in taking control of the match reducing the visitors to 34-4 as seamers Jordan Kontarines 2-14 off seven overs and Fred Conein took two early wickets apiece.
Opener Smith and R Evans both fell to superb bowling by the pair as Steve Ferguson took two catches behind the stumps and the top order collapsed after Australian Crichton drove into the hands of James Wagstaff at mid-off and Conein clean bowled Carter for just one.
Only skipper Simon Reed kept Frocester in a respectable position with some well timed shots, but the demise continued as Dave Sutton came on to claim four wickets and Wagstaff the other two.
Niblett and S Evans were Sutton's first two victims to leave six of the top seven batsmen in single figures and Reed finally fell for a gritty 47 to Wagstaff's leg spin.
The final three wickets were taken in just six overs although Easto and Pritchard threatened a comeback seeing Frocester past the century mark.
Wagstaff claimed 2-12 off seven overs and a well taken catch by Kontarines off Pritchard earned Sutton 4-33 off 12 overs, to see Colwall bowl the visitors out for 105.
Lincoln Marshall and Tom Wolfendale wasted no time in Colwall's reply, smashing 29 off the opening five overs before the latter was bowled by Pritchard for 16. It took Colwall 24 overs to reach their modest target mainly thanks to two stylish batting performances by Marshall and Tim Riley.
Marshall scored 48 in just 56 balls, an innings that displayed an impressive ten boundaries to stop any chance of Frocester turning the game around. Richard Williams and Steve Ferguson fell cheaply to Easto's bowling but Tim Riley finished off the job with an unbeaten 37 and saw Colwall home by six wickets after scoring four boundaries off the final five balls.
A maximum points win for Colwall that sees them continue their good form with four wins in their last five matches.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Colwall host Dumbleton .
