FOLLOWING three successive league victories, Colwall 2nd XI visited Frocester on Saturday and, despite a number of enforced changes, Colwall performed well against an unbeaten Frocester side and, with a little more fortune, may have taken the spoils.
COLWALL II v FROCESTER II
Colwall won the toss and decided to field. This, at the outset, proved to be a good decision, with Frocester reduced to 30-3 due to some attacking bowling from Willmott and Dentieth.
However, after a number of opportunities to make further inroads into the Frocester batting went begging and, due to a fortuitous 84 by Clarkson and good knocks by Wilkins (54) and Little (33 not out), the home side reached 222.8 at the close.
The pick of the Colwall bowlers was Ryan Willmott.
In reply Colwall made a steady but unspectacular start, due to accurate bowling from Woodmason and Little.
Brian Goode, however, after a settling in period, started to play attacking shots to all parts of the ground and with the assistance of Jon Berry (23) and Martin Oliver (14) gave Colwall hope of victory.
This, however, evaporated with the loss of regular wickets and despite some spirited knocks from Willmott, Lewis and Wyatt, Colwall fell 8 runs short of the target on 214-9.
Brian Goode (84) played a splendid innings at the top of the order and together with a steady bowling performance was Man of the Match.
Colwall 2nd XI visit Dumbleton on Saturday, start 1.30 p.m., hoping to return to winning ways.
