MALVERN Ramblers III travelled to Cleobury Mortimer on Saturday where they lost the toss and were asked to bat.
CLEOBURY MORTIMER v MALVERN RAMBLERS III
Aggressive intent was displayed by K. Baker, who hit the third ball of the game for a six. However, he soon perished to the bowling of Williams as his bat broke going for another big shot. A. Hutchinson and the 'in form' R. Cullen then put on 128 for the second wicket, aided by some wayward bowling and a true pitch.
R. Cullen played the major hand in the partnership with some well timed wristy shots on both sides of the wicket.
Hutchinson perished quickly after the introduction of spinner Griffiths, who then took two more quick wickets to put pressure on Ramblers. However, a good innings by Evans and powerful hitting by Moriarty saw Ramblers post a good total. R. Cullen was eventually out after scoring a fine first century for the Ramblers.
Cleobury Mortimer's innings was electric, with A. Smith smashing the Ramblers openers all around the ground with plenty of sixes and fours.
Smith was eventually caught off Hutchinson for a very fiery 90. Evans then wrestled control over the game back to Ramblers with a fine spell of 17 uninterrupted overs for seven wickets.
J. Griffiths posted a fine 34 for Cleobury to hold the innings together.
Ramblers' total of 254 eventually proved too much for Cleobury who scored a defiant 184.
