MALVERN Concert Club has published details of its new season with the first of six events being held next month.
All of the club's concerts will be at The Forum at the Malvern Theatres and the season kicks off on Thursday, September 21, with a concert by pianist Kathryn Stott.
The Lancashire-born musician will be presenting music from each decade of the 20th Century through works by the likes of Ravel, Rachmaninov, Shostakovich and Gershwin.
The Coull Quartet, which was formed in 1974 at the Royal Academy of Music, provide the music on October 26 with a concert featuring works by Haydn, Shostakovich and Mendelssohn.
On November 30 the Rose Consort of Viols will be joined by mezzo-soprano Catherine King for an evening of music from the Court of King James I The Golden Age Restored. It includes songs and dance music from Byrd, Gibbons, Tomkins and Dowland.
The series then breaks until January 25 when the flute, harp and string trio Jeux come to Malvern with a programme of Mozart, Michael Berkeley, Debussy, Vivaldi and Villa-Lobos.
The concert on March 1 teams baritone Christopher Maltman with pianist Malcolm Martineau performing Schubert's Die schone Mullerin and a group of English songs.
The season ends with a visit by the piano quartet Schubert Ensemble of London on May 3, who will perform work by Ravel and Faure and a new piece by Judith Weir.
The club was formed in 1903 by Sir Edward Elgar and his friend Troyte Griffiths, who was its first secretary, and has an eye on its impending centenary.
Tickets for its concerts are £10 (£9 OAPs/£4 students under 21 in full time education) from the Malvern Theatres box office on 01684 892277.
