ON Saturday, Barnards Green 3rd XI, played hosts to Worcester 3rd XI on a warm and sometimes sunny afternoon.
BARNARDS GREEN 3RD XI v WORCESTER 3RD XI
Worcester elected to bat, but soon lost opener Tarver, bowled by Lee Hooper.
Mat Brookes then had Evans caught at square leg, but Humphries (69) and Evans (57) threatened to take the game away from the Green. Humphries was eventually well caught by Marc Jones in the deep, but new batsman Cornes continued the onslaught and a score of 300 plus looked inevitable, before Lee Hooper 4-65 and Jamie Longmore 4-50 were re-introduced to the attack and bowled superbly, ably supported by some good catching by Roy Mayo (3) and 'keeper Andy Harris to keep Worcester to 246.
The Green started positively with Mat Brookes (18) and Marc Jones (7) looking in excellent form before both were out needlessly. This brought Robin Longmore and Lee Hooper to the wicket and the clean hitting of Longmore (85) and the excellent shot selection of Hooper (49) put on 144 in 15 overs. Longmore departed well caught on the boundary and Hooper was somewhat unfortunate to be dismissed lbw. With 73 still required, Kieran Deegan (26) played majestically, but it was left to third team debutant Andy Harris (27no) to score the winning runs, very well assisted by 14 year old Duncan Bell.
