In connection with your opinion in the Evening News on Wednesday, August 2, regarding the proposed building of a new football stadium, the point should be emphasised that if Worcester City Football Club is to relocate to Nunnery Way it must either do so with its own resources or it must comply with the planning policy for this area.

However enthusiastic certain people may be for this new venture, the club should not be given preferential treatment over other businesses seeking to relocate.

There should be a level playing field with no special treatment for the club over other local businesses.

If the club cannot relocate utilising its own resources it will be a question as to what is acceptable "enabling development".

In this respect the technical services committee in June 1997 gave a list of such acceptable uses. These comprise of mainly sporting/leisure uses.

The current proposals by the club do not fit the guidelines and therefore Worcester City Council was correct to reject the current proposals.
