IN reply to New Labour county councillor Bob Peachey (You Say, August 8), I have never fulminated about True Labour, but have, where required, criticised New Labour.
Such as the joined-at-the-wrist politics of New Lab/Lib-Dems. This he would be well aware of as at County Hall he sits among the Lib-Dems. A minder perhaps?
And if Coun Peachey wishes to openly describe the Cabinet system of government, he should, as I have, visit the internet and view the councils currently operating the Cabinet system.
And to see the big picture talk, as I have, to the councillors of all political persuasions, even the disenchanted New Labour councillors operating under the strict written instructions from Millbank Towers on shared administration.
Bob's vision of four or five elitist untouchable councillors making all the decisions is certainly the least democratic way, yet akin to the European formula.
And yes, Coun Peachey, when England is further split into regions under New Labour, the Cabinet system will fit snugly into place.
So be honest. Of course it's Europe by stealth.
I will only ever subscribe to democracy and definitely not to the American system.
