ONE of Worcester's best known pubs is being renovated over the next few months, including a name change which city drinkers are being asked to help with.
The Feathers Pub in Upper Tything has been bought by Jim McKeever and his wife Anne Brennan, who plan to give the 17th Century pub a "complete overhaul".
"We're looking for a totally fresh start which includes a new name," said Mr McKeever.
He said the person who came up with the best name would win a free drink, to the value of £2, every week for the next three years.
Entry into the competition costs £1, which will go to the Worcester Talking Newspaper for the Blind. Entry forms are available at the bar. Mr McKeever would also love to hear from anyone who knows anything about the history of the pub.
Over the next four to five months, Mr McKeever plans to turn the pub, which will remain open throughout, back into an "olde worlde" style hostelry, complete with black and white beams and a relaxed atmosphere.
"The original black and white beams still exist inside," he said.
"We want to make it a pub where you can take your girlfriend for a chat - somewhere cosy and relaxed. There will be no pool tables or loud music. There aren't any pubs in Worcester where it's quiet - they've all got loud music."
Mr McKeever and his wife ran the Cavalier Pub in St George's Lane for three-and-a-half years before buying the Feathers. Before that the couple, who have both been "in the trade" for 25 years, were at The Bell on Droitwich Road.
