IF the door to good health and relaxation seems locked then this Bromsgrove man may hold the key.

Mark Peters is a world-recognised figure in the martial art of tai chi.

His group, the Kai Ming Association for Tai Chi, is organising a free demonstration in the town on Wednesday September 6.

Mark said: "Many people use this martial art for health and relaxation.

"People with asthma, angina, and circulation or breathing problems find it useful.

"The Chinese say your legs are your second heart. Tai chi improves circulation and takes the strain off the heart."

The one-hour session at the Burcot Room, in the Council House, starts at 7pm.

It will be the forerunner for weekly sessions at the Burcot Lane venue which will cost £3 each.

Mark is a vice-president of the World Tai Chi Federation. He is the body's only non-Chinese representative.

The Lydiate Ash resident is also the regional officer on the Tai Chi Union for Great Britain and the British Council for Chinese Martial Arts.

He said: "Tai chi improves your awareness of yourself and your surroundings.

"There is also a non-aggressive self-defence aspect which uses the balance and force of an attacker to repel them."
