DROITWICH pensioners have been warned to be on their guard against bogus callers following a distraction burglary.

Cash was stolen from a house in The Dale, Chawson, after a man offering gardening services called at the home of an elderly man at around 7pm on Tuesday.

The pensioner chatted in his garden and a few hours later discovered a "substantial" amount of cash was missing from his home.

Police believe two men were involved in the incident.

"Fortunately this appears to have been an isolated theft but tragically it serves to remind us to be alert to the tricks of distraction burglars," said PC Jan Heritage of Droitwich police.

"It is important to remember that workmen from reputable businesses will not mind people closing their doors and checking their details are genuine by calling the number listed in the telephone directory.

"Only when you are satisfied the caller is genuine should you let them into any part of your property."
