LIGHTNING Arrow can make a triumphant return to Chester tomorrow.
He is set to pay for the cost of his trip from Arundel with success in the £30,000-added Chester Rated Stakes.
The four-year-old did well when last making the 225-mile journey north from John Dunlop's yard, finishing a close third in the Chester Vase behind the disqualified Housemaster -- who went on to take fourth place in the Derby.
Though just short of Classic calibre himself -- he was struck into and finished down the field in the 1999 Italian Derby -- Lightning Arrow is a smart performer on his day.
And a gelding operation in the winter has made him a tougher one too, judged on this season's results.
He was an emphatic winner at Newmarket last month, before running in-form Murghem to half a length in a valuable event at Goodwood -- where he was initially caught flat-footed on the home turn and finished fastest of all.
This step up to an extended 13 furlongs will be ideal for Lightning Arrow and he can land another big staying prize for Dunlop, whose Fantasy Hill scored at the last Chester Sunday meeting.
Regent Court is worth keeping an eye on in the EBF MBNA International Bank Maiden Stakes.
She looked very much in need of the experience on her debut at Doncaster a fortnight ago and did particularly well to finish fifth, staying on strongly under a considerate ride after getting behind early on.
The well-bred filly, an expensive purchase by Tim Easterby's standards at 40,000 Irish guineas, will have learned a good deal from that outing and is likely to do much better this time.
Easterby can complete an across-the-card double by landing the Slatch Farm Stud Stud Flying Fillies' Stakes at Pontefract with Hot Tin Roof.
