A MOTORIST who drove at 70 mph in a built up area has escaped a driving ban.
Stephen Sabin was travelling through Malvern on the B4208 when police noted his high speeds.
Worcester magistrates heard how police were on mobile patrol on Wednesday, April 19, at 12.50am when they estimated Sabin was driving at around 70mph.
"Officers followed his Laguna car and got his registration number," said Julian Harris, prosecuting.
"He was travelling at high speed. He reached between 85mph and 90mph."
Mr Harris said that Sabin also drove at 70mph in a 30mph zone.
Sabin, of Marlborough Gardens, Malvern, previously admitted the charge.
The 38-year-old, representing himself, said he was rushing to get home.
"I did not think I was going that fast," he said. "A disqualification may have quite an effect on my job. My employer hasn't said what would happen if I did lose my licence."
Sabin was fined £300 and was given six penalty points. He was also ordered to pay £35 court costs.
