WORCESTER City's new winger Ian Reed is hoping he can carry his impressive pre-season form into the new Dr Martens League Premier Division season.

The 24-year-old left-sided player, recruited in the close season from Nuneaton Borough, has been one of City's most impressive players in the friendlies along with his counterpart on the opposite flank, Mike Wyatt.

But he doesn't want to make rash predictions about how City will get on this season, saying: "We are doing well and I haven't been doing too bad. I hope everything goes all right for us and I can stay injury-free."

Reed believes City must make a positive start to the season, which kicks off at Tamworth today.

"If we get a good start it puts us in good stead for the rest of the season. It is vital."

Lichfield-born Reed, who works in the building trade, started his career at Shrewsbury Town where he scored twice in 18 Football League appearances.

He then moved on to Halesowen Town, where fellow newcomers Danny McDonnell and Andy Bradley were among this team-mates, moving to Nuneaton last season.

Reed says manager John Barton made a good job of selling the club to him when discussing his proposed transfer.

"He just said it was a big club, and I have been told by other people that it was a big club. Every time I have been here there has been big crowds."

He had expected to be starting the new season at Nuneaton, but injuries restricted his appearances last season and he became surplus to requirements after manager Bredan Phillips made a host of new signings.

"He told me I was going to be involved but he had made several new signings, so I though I would do better elsewhere."

Reed is adapting well to his new surroundings at St George's Lane. "I am settling in well and enjoying it, and getting on well with the lads."
