A 17ft triangular monument has been proudly placed in the grounds of a stately home.

The National Trust has bestowed the gardens of Hanbury Hall, near Droitwich, with a wooden obelisk which can be found on a grass platt in the Wilderness Garden.

The feature is part of the continuing recreation of the early 18th Century garden at the hall.

An illustration was used from a book by Batty Langley to re-construct the obelisk, pictured on the Dougherty garden plan of the hall from 1732.

It has been painted in Hardwick white by volunteers on a National Trust working holiday at the property.

The finishing touch will be a time-capsule bottle - to be buried within the construction - containing details of everyone who worked on the project and details of the restoration.
