A FUND-raising appeal to buy a sick Worcester youngster an electric wheelchair has reached the £2,500 mark.

Generous Evening News readers dug deep into their pockets to help leukaemia sufferer Hannah Jones' plight.

The five-year-old was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia last December, then suffered heart failure after two rounds of chemotherapy.

She needs a heart transplant but doctors will not carry out the operation until she has been in remission for 12 months.

Her parents Kirsty and Andrew believe a motorised chair would help to improve Hannah's quality of life.

"We are overjoyed that the money has been raised so quickly," said Mrs Jones, of Nuffield Close, St John's.

"We're really thrilled that Hannah can have the chair. We're hoping that the wheelchair manufacturing firm will come and visit us this week, then we can put the order in.

"We'd like to thank everyone who's helped us. It is unbelievable that the money has been raised. It was good of everyone to pledge cash.

"It's also very kind of Bushwackers to offer to make up the difference."

Hannah's building society account now has £2,564 in it.
