I AM a retired GWR driver - 48 years at Worcester Shrub Hill. I retired in 1982, working InterCity trains to Paddington, Cardiff, Bristol, Birmingham, Shrub Hill and New Street.

I feel very sad that they divert rail, bypassing Shrub Hill. It would take an extra 12 minutes if all trains came via Shrub Hill.

This is an example: 6.04 Leeds to Plymouth (12.22). If this train came via Shrub Hill it would arrive Plymouth (12.37). If this train arrived on time the passengers would not care that the train came via Worcester. The Cardiff trains come via Shrub Hill.

Railtrack has spent a lot of money at Worcester Shrub Hill. There is no need to spend millions at Norton. People are not going to go over the M5 Junction 7 and park at Norton to catch a train to Birmingham or Bristol.
