THE No.1 local soccer league kicked off on Sunday with last year's Division One champions back in top form.

Rubery Redstar travelled to Barnt Green Spartak and won 4-2 thanks to a James Field hat-trick and another goal from Karl Bailey. Prolific marksman Keiron Holland and Simon Campbell notched for the home side.

New boys Rubery Social beat former champs Turks Head 3-0 thanks to Mark Hicks, Shamol McGeachey and Craig Walton.

There was a goal bonanza at Access Security Athletic who beat Mappleborough Green 7-3 with strikes coming from Richard Bills (four), Chad Ehlertsen, Gary Hughes and Stuart McDarby. Green's scorers were Phil Ellis (two) and Mark Rolph.

But Mostyn Rangers versus Alvechurch Darts was goalless.

In Division Two, Woodbourne Sports beat Ringspanners 3-2. Jon Greenaway (two) and Mark Squibb netted for the homesters, Matt Rowe and Tommy Thompson were the goal-scorers for the visitors who led 1-0 at half time.

Victoria Barnt Green put five past Crabmill without reply. Liam O'Brien (three), Stuart Jackson and Matt Newbold were the heroes.

Barley Mow lost 2-0 at home to Sutton Athletic (Chris Brazier and Gary Cooney scored) and Sight & Sound SSC drew 2-2 with New Olympic. Richard Hawkett and Lee Strain notched for the home side in reply to a Gareth Meese brace.
