DROITWICH Cricket Club's Third XI claimed a vital victory in their fight against relegation when they comfortably beat bottom-of-the-table Bournville by six wickets at St Peter's Fields.

Chasing 146, Spa romped home with 22 overs to spare to claim only their second win of a difficult season.

They overcame the loss of opener Liam Hine to only the second ball of the innings and cruised to maximum points thanks to knocks of 43 from Glen Harrison and 41 from Paul Rowley.

Spa also had to thank the opposition's wayward bowling, which gave them 29 runs in wides and byes.

Phil Darlison was the pick of Town's bowlers, with an excellent 16-over spell which brought him 3-45.

He was well supported by Alan Breakwell (2-29) who claimed the scalp of opener Morris for 32 after he started the Bournville innings like an express train.

The visitors then offered little resistance and there were two unnecessary run outs.

Only Ken Hoare showed any determination until on 27 he chanced his arm once too often and Nigel Haddock had him caught on the boundary.
