Tomorrow, a four-man team of Redditch men will set off for the French Alps for an arduous 100 km mountain expedition which will take in some of the most stunning scenery in the world, including glaciers.

Ex-Royal Navy diver, Darren Etheridge, sports therapist, John McCarthy, team photographer, Wayne Blunston, and expedition medic, Dave Lehane, will spend 18 days in the region.

The group will undertake an unsupported seven-day trawl along the Tour du Mont Blanc.

En route they will climb more than 8000m across Alpine peaks and the biggest glacier in Europe.

Team navigator John McCarthy, of Redditch Council's sport development unit, said: "The Tour de Mont Blanc is a very big route but there's a lot of mountaineering experience within the group.

"We're very grateful to Club Ventura which has allowed us to train there, and also other companies such as SDC Ltd and Asgard Volvo which have sponsored us."
