A MOURNING husband has paid tribute to his 61-year-old wife who was killed in a head-on car crash.

Phyllis Porter, of Moreland Road, died at Selly Oak Hospital, in Birmingham, following the smash on the A46, at Haselor, near Alcester, last Thursday.

Husband Roy Porter said tributes have poured in from friends of his wife -- who was known as Phyl.

The couple were keen cross-country walkers, members of Redditch Golf Club and the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust (WWT), at Smite.

An article they co-wrote about a walk from the nearby River Severn to its source in Wales is set to feature in a forthcoming WWT members' magazine.

Mrs Porter, who had no children, retired three years ago from her job as manager's secretary at Barclays Bank branches in Kings Norton and Bromsgrove.

Mr Porter, aged 70, said: "I have been inundated with calls from people who knew Phyl.

"We both loved the outdoors and she had many friends because we shared so many hobbies."

Police said Mrs Porter's red Honda Accord was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Astra driven by Thomas Dawson, aged 38, from Norfolk.

He suffered multiple injuries and is said to be in a stable condition in Selly Oak Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at Worcester Crematorium this week.

Mr Porter asked for donations to be given to Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, c/o Crump and Son Funeral Directors, 33 Hanbury Road, Droitwich Spa.
