A BRIGHT future awaits intelligent Spa students who celebrated their A-level results last Thursday.

The summer-long wait was finally over for sixth formers at Droitwich Spa High School, in Ombersley Road, anxiously waiting to know if they had made the grade.

Brain-box Jo Patrick, aged 18, certainly did well.

She is heading for Cambridge University after achieving 3 As in maths, further maths and physics, plus 2 Bs in chemistry and general studies.

She will study engineering and said she was "very pleased".

Deep-thinking David Steele, of The Ridings, also scooped 3 As and 2 Bs.

After the summer he's off to Cardiff University to read psychology.

The relieved student said he had followed a strict revision timetable, which helped him achieve excellent marks.

"Unfortunately, I will celebrate tonight by doing my shift at Tesco but I plan to party with friends as soon as possible," he said.

Nick McAulay was all smiles with his results which included 1 A and 2 Bs.

The Brantwood Road resident took five A-levels and will study dentistry at the University of Manchester.

Nick said: "It's been very stressful and I'm just glad I got my university place."

Cheerful 18-year-old Vicky Hodgetts, of Park Way, won her place at Nottingham University to study medicine, by getting an outstanding 1 A, 2 Bs and 2 Cs.

She wanted to thank sixth form director Shan Schanda for supporting her studies over the past two years.

Despite gaining 4 Bs Sarah Maddams, of Corbett Avenue, was rather disappointed with her grades.

"I expected 2 As so I'm a bit disappointed," she said.

But Sarah planned to celebrated that evening and will be taking a year out on an industry work placement before heading to university.
