SHIPMATES who gave generously at a Salwarpe village fete will be dancing on their sea legs when they hear a record amount of cash was collected.
On Saturday, thousands turned out for swashbuckling action at Salwarpe Village Hall, in Copcut Lane, and raised an outstanding £8,000.
Residents of all ages enjoyed the fancy dress competition, greasy pole, dog displays, puppet show and Caribbean music.
There were also games, stalls, a raffle, teas, cakes and quilt making.
All cash will go towards restoration work at the churches in Salwarpe and Martin Hussingtree.
Parishioner Alison Harris said: "It was a delightful day and the weather was super.
"The record breaking amount of cash raised shows just how popular the event has become."
