THE last of the season's Monday evening opens at Broad Acres was won by match organiser Graham Upton (Athol AC).
He took 20-12-0 from peg seven with pole and corn. Second was John Newton (FAPS Trinders) with 16-4-0 and third was Chris Newton (New End AC) 14-6-0.
The Starlets Veterans of Northfield were at Moorlands Farm's Bank and Moors Pools on Tuesday and Alvechurch's Ken Giles showed the way with a winning 58-15-0 catch by pole fishing worm and casters from Moors peg 12. Second placed Terry Kavanagh (Stourbridge) had 50-11-0 from Bank peg 16, third John Osman (Northfield) 43-15-0.
Worcester's Sam Brown topped the Steadfast 2000 Junior open at Moorlands Farm with 37-1-0 of carp taken with pole and corn from Meadow Pool peg ten. Second was Danny Bache (Kevin Mortimer) 33-2-0, third Aaron Munslow (DC Lifestyle) 31-0-0.
On Wednesday, the Moorlands Farm Meadow Pool open saw peg ten throw up the top weight again. This time it was for Paul Rowberry (MAP Starlets) with a 75-2-0 catch taken with pole, corn and meat.
Close weights followed with Dean Gilbert (Walsall) in second place with 73-1-0, third Dave Rowberry (Severn Trent) 72-5-0.
The Woodlands View open was won by Stuart Tankard (Fisherman's Friend) by pole fishing meat up in the water at Deans Pool peg 35 for 96-15-0. Second Steve Owen (Woodlands) 72-2-0, third Tony Stanley (West Midlands) 66-14-0.
The evening Deans Pool open saw Vince Gandley (Shakespeare) take a ton-up catch of 100-6-0 with pole, corn and meat from peg 40. Second Denis O'Leary (Woodlands) 59-13-0, third Frank Taylor (Tim's Tackle) 56-4-0.
The Leeda Junior open at Elmbridge showed the best weights of the series so far and was headed by 11-year-old Tom Edwards (Cutnall Green) who pole fished corn and meat at peg 12 for 26-10-0 of carp. Second Luke Hughes (Droitwich) 19-1-0.
On Thursday, the Leeda Junior open at Broad Acres saw nine-year-old Jake Newton (Redditch) take a winning 21-14-0 catch of carp and skimmers with pole and corn from peg 12. Second Peter Bailey (Bromsgrove) 14-12-0, third John Burton (Broad Acres Youth) 10-5-0.
At Moorlands Farm, the Thursday Special open was held on the Meadow Pool, which saw fishery expert Clive Munslow (Preston Innovations) trounce the opposition with a 117-15-0 catch taken with pole and corn. Tony Parker (DC Lifestyle) followed with 82-7-0, third Aaron Munslow (DC Lifestyle) 76-11-0.
Friday's Costcutter open was won by Bob Jones (Moorlands) with a waggler and meat catch of 84-6-0 from peg 51. Second Paul Foster (Fosters MG) 66-12-0, third Colin Pace (Bilston) 61-11-0.
Rob Francis (Ovation Leisure) was a clear winner at the last of the series of Friday evening Broad Acres opens with a pole, corn and caster catch of 39-7-0 from peg 19. Second John Baillon (Droitwich) 25-4-0, third Graham Upton (Athol AC) 16-11-0.
On Saturday, the Lucas National Practice open was held at Poole Hall Fisheries's Kingfisher Pool and it was tough going for most with winner Jim Hinkley (Birmingham) only needing a modest carp and tench catch of 12-7-0 with pole and worm from peg 33.
Second placed Steve Jarratt (Lucas) was at next door peg 32 where he took 9-4-0, third Terry Pardoe (Lucas) 7-3-0.
Ian Whitehouse (Team Wesson) led a close sheet of results at Moorlands Farm's Meadow Pool open with 56-10-0 of corn fed carp from peg 15. Second Clive Munslow (Preston Innovations) 56-0-0, third Brian Cawley (Clissetts) 48-13-0.
The three-hour evening open was held on the Moors Pool with Paul Cahill (Bartley Green) taking first place with 90-8-0 from peg ten. Second Keith Hyde (Oldham) 87-6-0, third Clive Munslow (Preston Innovations) 85-6-0.
At Broad Acres, the afternoon open was won by Bob Brown (Matchbox) with a pole, corn and meat catch of 35-0-0 from peg nine. Second Rob Francis (Ovation Leisure) 29-11-0, third Brian Williams (Redditch) 18-7-0.
The Woodlands View Arles Pool open saw Rubery matchman Stan Taylor (Woodlands) take a ton-up catch of 112-15-0 by pole fishing meat up in the water at peg 25. Second Matt Cox (Tromans) 83-1-0, third Gary Prestage (Tromans) 67-10-0.
The Arles Pool was also used for the evening open which was won by Tony Holmes (Slapheads) with a 104-10-0 carp haul from peg 12. Second place went to fishery owner Mike Mason on one of his rare attempts with 78-15-0, third Nick Hill (Woodlands) 73-0-0.
On to Sunday for the Deans Pool open at Woodlands View which saw Neville Groves (Tim's Tackle) take a 102-11-0 catch with pole, corn and meat from peg 13. Runner-up Barry Gannon (Fisherman's Way) ran him close with 101-15-0, third Carl Whitehouse (Woodlands) 92-0-0.
The 100 AC was at the BAA Uckinghall Pool, near Tewkesbury, for its Bob Sloane Memorial contest.
West Heath top rod Paul Butler fished a groundbait feeder with worm on the hook from the middle of the Riverside Bank peg five where he latched onto a grass carp which took the scales round to 12-15-0 and gave him the bonus prize of £160.
Ironically, it was his only bite of the day. Second Tony Delves 12-5-0, third John Burns 5-6-0.
The Birmingham Civil Service AS fished the first of two legs of its President's Trophy contest on club waters on the Grand Union Canal at Knowle.
It was won by Mark Longthorne from peg 81 where he pole fished red maggots down the nearside for 2-12-0 of perch and skimmers. Second John Powell 2-6-0, third Gordon Ashford 1-14-8.
Astwood Fisheries Smokey Joe Pool open was won by Frank Willnett (Castle MG) with a pole and meat catch of 18-6-0 from peg 42. Second Pete Donaghue (Kings Oak) 12-10-0, third Frank McLoughlin (Kings Oak) 11-2-0.
At Alvechurch Fisheries, Ken Giles (Alvechurch) continued his good form with a top catch 64-10-0 by pole fishing worms at peg six. Second Albert Jones (Alvechurch) 47-7-0, third Geoff Tolley (Alvechurch) 40-10-0.
Over in the Wyre Forest, the Furnace Mill open was fished on the Furnace and Mucky Meadow Pools, and it was peg 15 on the furnace that threw up a top catch of 64-5-0 of carp for Phil Coles (Furnace Mill) with pole and corn.
Second was Paul Gregory (Swan AC) with 48-12-0, third Paul Hodgetts (Clissetts) 36-10-0.
