YOUR report (August 15) of submissions about the three supermarket applications includes a quote that "the Civic Society... . has objected to all three applications."
This makes it sound as though we always object to supermarkets. In fact, our technical panel objected to Swanpool because of the damage to a conservation area, and to traffic and parking aspects.
It objected to Safeway on Hylton Road because of the poor designs offered - and it objected to Asda on the Cattle Market because the proposal was so sketchy that any judgement would have been foolhardy.
