TWO could become one when a semi-detached house is ripped from its neighbour to make room for an eight-home development in Beacon Hill, Rubery.

Halesowen-based Carlton Developments Midlands Ltd has submitted plans to Bromsgrove District Council which has informed residents of the scheme.

The existing home would be demolished to make way for access to the new estate and a detached house would also be built there.

The council's case officer Sarah Gauntlet said while the authority had informed residents about the proposals it was up to developers to hold talks with those living in the earmarked property set to be knocked down.

Resident Baden Carlson said the scheme is a crazy notion.

He added: "The developers are knocking down a semi-detached home and building a detached property next to the one that is left.

"The estate is inappropriate because it's in an area where there are lots of trees.

"I also know the woman living next to the house which could be knocked down is very distressed."

Carlton is currently building five homes on the A38 near The Mount School, in Bromsgrove.

Director Steve Myatt said: "Unfortunately we have been unable to discuss the impact of the proposals with all parties as yet.

"We have worked hard to not overdevelop the rear of the site at Beacon Hill and have put fewer properties there than we could have by not removing preservation order trees.

"We try to sort our way through people's problems to come up with solutions but you can't please everyone."

The scheme is expected to be discussed at September's meeting of the council's planning and highways committee.
